How To Fix Stained Teeth

Does the colour of your teeth put you off smiling? If so, you are not alone. Many patients, when asked what they would like to change about their smile, say they would like brighter teeth, free from stains. Thankfully, there are many options available to brighten up your smile.

dental hygienistOur teeth become stained thanks to drinks such as coffee, tea and red wine, habits such as smoking and even certain medications. The natural ageing process also leads our teeth to lose some of their natural sparkle. If stained teeth are making your life miserable, why not get in touch with one of our dental team to find out how we can help you?

Here are some of the solutions we offer. Remember, the perfect treatment will vary from patient to patient, depending on your wants, needs and lifestyle, so do talk to a member of our team of dentists in Wigan about all the options.

Professional cleaning with the hygienist

We recommend you make regular appointments with a dental hygienist. Our hygienist, Angela, will remove any plaque and tartar that has built up on your teeth with a scale and polish. Using special equipment and pastes she will professionally clean your teeth, removing stubborn stains and leaving you with a clean, fresh feeling. She will also advise you on how best to remove plaque at home.

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening treatment involves using whitening gels to remove stains from your teeth. We use the popular Zoom teeth whitening system, which will make your teeth several shades brighter. Treatment can either be carried out in one intensive session at the practice, using light-activated gel, or over the course of about two weeks at home.

Veneers

Dental veneers are thin slivers of porcelain placed over the front surface of your teeth to hide stains and minor imperfections. They are bonded to the tooth surface and are closely matched to the natural colour of your teeth. A single veneer can cover a badly stained tooth, or a whole set can give you a smile makeover.
