Sensitive Teeth

Are sensitive teeth the bane of your life? Do you find yourself wishing you could enjoy your morning coffee without waiting for it to cool down? Dream of enjoying a summery ice cream treat without a shooting pain in your teeth? Wish you could enjoy that cocktail before the ice has melted?

sensitive teethIf this sounds familiar, you are not alone. We see many patients who complain of sensitive teeth and it can make you very unhappy, as it takes the joy out of many foods and drinks.

The good news is, we can help you. The first thing we will do is to establish what is causing your sensitivity. There are many products available over the counter that claim to cure sensitive teeth. However, in many cases these products treat only the symptoms without addressing the underlying cause. That means when you stop using a sensitive toothpaste or mouthwash, you may well find your sensitivity returns.

We will find the root cause of your sensitive teeth, then treat it accordingly with the aim of preventing it coming back.

A leading cause of tooth sensitivity is enamel erosion. This can be caused by having a diet that is too rich in sugar or acidic food and drinks, which attacks the enamel and exposes the more sensitive tissue beneath. Another leading cause is incorrect brushing technique, which can also damage your enamel.

We can provide you with information about how to brush your teeth effectively, without damaging the enamel. We can also provide you with advice about your diet, such as how certain foods and drinks affect your teeth.

Other conditions, including grinding your teeth at night, or medical conditions such as eating disorders, can also lead to enamel erosion. Once we have established the cause, we’ll be able to prescribe you the best course of treatment. Find out more by booking a consultation with one of our dentists in Wigan.
